چکیده
We investigate the shell structure of spherical nuclear bubbles in simple phenomenological shell model potentials. The bunching is produced by the energy gaps between single-particle states with a different number of radial nodes. The shell correction energies for doubly magic bubbles may be as large as –40 MeV and probably imply a very long lifetime against spontaneous fission. β-stability occurs for ratios of the neutron number N to the proton number Z which differ markable from the β-stability valley of ordinary compact nuclei. The α–decay probability is shown to be very small for proton rich bubbles with a moderately large outer radius. Metastable islands of nuclear bubbles are shown to exist for nucleon in the range A=450–3000.

Improvements are performed on a recently proposed statistical theory of the mean field of a many-fermion system. Ground state properties of the superheavy elements (SHE) with 108≤Z≤128 and 150≤N ≤192 are investigated using both the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method with a density-independent contact pairing interaction and the macroscopic-microscopic approach with an average Woods-Saxon potential and a monopole pairing interaction. Detailed analysis of binding energies, separation energies, shell effects, single...

We prove the homotopy invariance of L torsion for covering spaces, whenever the covering transformation group is either residually finite or amenable. In the case when the covering transformation group is residually finite and when the L cohomology of the covering space vanishes, the homotopy invariance was established by Lück [Lu]. We also give some applications of our results.

Coulomb energy differences between mirror nuclei with A ≤ 70 are calculated within the framework of the nuclear shell model using an effective Coulomb plus isovector and isotensor interaction. Absolute binding energies for proton-rich nuclei are predicted by adding the calculated Coulomb shifts to experimentally measured binding energies for the neutron-rich mirror. The location of the proton d...

The second unique forbidden electron capture (EC) decay in 123 Te is calculated in the Proton-Neutron Quasi-Particle Random Phase Approximation (pn-QRPA), making use of Skyrme-type residual interactions. As in the allowed Gamow-Teller channel, the forbidden nuclear matrix elements depend sensitively on the competition between particle-hole and particle-particle correlations. Theory provides a l...
